Opportunist thieves strike in district; Crimewatch TURNING the spotlight on crime in the Huddersfield district. The column is compiled with the co-operation of Neighbourhood Watch Liaison:


* BURGLARY - Lascelles Hall, Aug 12. Raider(s) stole car keys. Vehicle later found crashed in Morley. Almondbury, Aug 11. Raider sneaked in through unlocked side door and stole cash, Xbox and mobile phone. Waterloo, Aug 10.


2. Insert the barrel into the hole until it can't go any further.The latest theft happened at the weekend in Woodhouse Hill, Fartown. A thief prised open the door of a shed and stole property from the fridge that was inside.5. Slide your safety plate in position to hold the spring, then place the adjoining plate to the inner edge of your door frame and mark the holes. Drill four more pilot holes with a three millimetre drill bit and drive a two inch screw into each. 6. Remove the safety plate. The door now should spring shut.A burglar can also use garden tools to break into a house.Avoid being a victim of garden crime by reviewing your security and taking action where necessary to reduce the loss of your valued possessions.Entered front garden and set fire to dry grass.3. Hold the plate in position and mark the four screw holes. Drill four pilot holes using a three millimetre drill bit and screw the plate of the barrel to the edge of the door.
