Thieves have been getting in through unlocked windows and doors, prompting a fresh plea for householders to increase security measures.Blyth neighbourhood insp, Trevor Oakley, said: "A break-in can cause misery and inconvenience to householders, but when we're investigating these crimes it becomes apparent that a lot of them could have been avoided.THEFT - Honley, Sept 13. Thief unscrewed water pipe attachments and then made off with water trough."We would urge people to follow simple security advice like locking their doors and windows and leaving lights on when they're not at home, as this can make a real difference to protecting their property. "Keys should also be removed from doors or on show next to windows, which also present opportunities for thieves. "The same advice applies to vehicles.'' VEHICLE CRIME - A number of vehicles have been stolen from the Holmfirth area this week. One of them was stolen from Greenfield Road and the other from Woodhead Road in Holmfirth. PLEASE make it as hard as possible for thieves to steal your car. There has also been registration plates stolen from a car in the New Mill area. Please use your garage if you have one. The Bay Horse pub, Penistone Road, Hade Edge, Sept 13. Lock forced on parked van and entry gained. Raiders forced car door and pulled cowling from steering column and tampered with ignition wiring, but vehicle was not star ted.
