Auto theft is among the most prevalent crimes today. According to some studies, if you leave your car unlocked or place valuables in sight in the car, you have a one in thirty chance of having your car stolen.
* Mrs Jean Barraclough led worship at Linthwaite Methodist Church. Mrs Maureen Stead operated the AV and Mr Rodney Pearson was the organist. Mrs Barraclough, along with Ian and Lesley Baxter, performed a short sketch about emptying your 'worries.' The young people then left the service to go to junior church along with their leaders Joanna Ambler and Ed Archer-Siddall. Mr Adrian Calverley read from Acts 1 v 6-14 (The Ascension) which was followed by his wife Jackie reading from John 17 v1-11 (Jesus prays to be glorified). For her sermon Jean chose the text from 1 Peter 5 v7 'Cast your cares upon him and he will care for you.' * The vicar, the Rev Canon Martyn Crompton, welcomed the congregation to the worship in Today's World Service at St John's Church. The service was led by Margaret Laycock who also gave the talk titled Who Are You? Readings were given by Marion Hall from Psalm 121, proverbs 3 verses 5-7, and Luke 10, 38-41. "At the home of Martha and Mary". Sunday Club followed up this reading from Luke by role playing Martha working in the home while Mary listened to Jesus. Music was provided by Betty Taylor, Anne Crosland sang, Ann Norton played the piano and Helen Davis on the guitar.Use of multiple electrical devices and appliances during summer heat can cause your breakers to trip. Vacuum cleaners, washer and dryer, dish washer, pool pump, electric garage doors, computers, and hair dryers should be used sparingly. Refrigerators and freezers are necessary, but keep the kiddies from opening and closing them too much, causing the appliances to overwork to keep cool.1. Use common sense. It should be obvious that a car that's unlocked with keys in the ignition is a very attractive target for thieves.LINTHWAITE .2. Using a protection device helps. If it is a device that's plainly visible to would-be thieves, it has deterrent value too.Don't be afraid to ask questions or challenge the technicians diagnosis. If you are quoted what you feel is an extremely high estimate by the service guy, pay the small fee for the estimate and call another service technician for a second opinion. If your original quote is lower, the prior fee that you paid should be deducted from the total bill.However, if you lock your car, hide your valuables from sight and use an anti-theft device that can be seen from outside, the chances drop to one in thirty thousand!Even if you are parking your vehicle for just a few minutes, take the keys out of the ignition, close all windows and lock the doors. Try to park in a well-lit area, whenever possible. Don't display valuables / packages in plain sight inside your car.Immobilization devices include smart keys that have computer chips inside them, fuse cutoffs, ignition kill switches, etc.Some localities have a 'watch your car' program where special decals are displayed on the car. The authorities then have the right to pull the vehicle over and question the driver if the car is being driven at odd hours, such as between 1:00 am and 5:00 am. This helps because the majority of car thefts take place between these hours.* BURGLARY - Golcar, Jun 2. Attempted to snap europrofile lock on upvc patio doors. Then snapped lock on upvc kitchen door. Stole property from table and work tops including car keys. Made off with vehicle from driveway. VW Passat registration YD11 CFA. Linthwaite, Jun 5. Gained access to house via unknown means and stole handbag, camera and tv. Slaithwaite, Jun 3. Climbed security gate and smashed glass in rear patio door, activating alarm. Made tidy search but believed nothing taken. Linthwaite, Jun 6. Sneaked in through unlocked door and made search of bedroom taking computer console and tower unit. Golcar, Jun 1. Entered front garden and stole nine flag stones. Suspects placed them into the back of a white Ford Transit van registration M168 HGO and make of towards Slaithwaite. Milnsbridge, Jun 4. Stole lead flashing from roof. The Royal British Legion, Scar Lane, Golcar, Jun 1. Stole security sensor from top of entrance/exit door.* The service on Sunday, May 29 at the United Church Marsden, was a joint service with the Slaithwaite and Linthwaite Methodist Churches joining with Marsden. It was very well attended by all churches with extra seats having to be brought in. The service was led by David Harris, whose family talk was centred around a much loved pet named Molly. David demonstrated how Molly was able to take thing as they were, such as demonstrating unconditional love, the ability to act straight away to sort things that may cause irritation and not be afraid to rest when you need it. The sermon talked of the journey of life and how we need to look forward - we don't forget the past, but may need to leave it behind in order for the future to be achieved. The readings were Psalm 66 v 8-20 and was read in unison by the congregation. Peter Hirst read from Philippians 3 v 7-14. The organist was Linda Nuttall of Linthwaite Methodist Church. In view of the great numbers in the congregation, refreshments were served by many members of the Marsden congregation. More often is even better. Dirty filters can overwork your system as it works to keep your house cool. The air quality in your home will improve immensely too.
